Medical Students + Arsenal​

  • Medical Students for Choice, a special interest group, is looking to teach/develop a curriculum for Arsenal. (full details here).

Medical Students

  • Monthly meetings - 4th Monday each month @ 5:30pm.

  • April 25 @ 12pm – Scaife - Champ first generation physician panel

    • From Aliyyat: “For first generation: any physicians who are the first in their family to go to college or medical school.

      • "We are interested in learning how they navigate the field of medicine being first gen, since sometimes in medical school there seems to be a hidden curriculum and students are unaware on how to navigate it. In addition, if you could recruit someone to represent surgery, and family/internal medicine, and radiology that would be appreciated. Dr. Ricardi unavailable to represent ENT.”

Grant from Beth/community engagement studios:

Congratulations to Dr. Beth Hoffman! "Our request for funding from CTSI to evaluate the CPR program at Arsenal using youth participatory action research and to then implement a peer led program was successful!" Her proposal, YES CPR, has been selected for funding via the CTIS Engage pilot competition.

  • Parent - Teacher Conference – Oct 9, 11am - 6pm
    Parents did not attend

     

  • Hispanic Heritage Month Event – Oct 19

    • ​Dr. Diego joined us to play Kahoot with 35 students from the SOY group!

    • Wonderful engagement with students and should keep Kahoot in mind for future events
       

  • Fall Candy Crawl – Thurs Oct 26, 4:30p - 6:30

    • CHAMP Team distributed nearly 50lbs of candy!

               most students came through by 5p

  • Holiday Stocking Stuffers - Given to and distributed by Arsenal on Dec 14
    Kindly funded by Emaad from Spread the Love Projects!​

    • Chapstick, Lotion, Kleenex, Deodorant, Gloves, Hats, Oral hygiene, Candy, Pop-Its (fidget toys)

    • Larger bags recommended for next bags. Larger lotion, for example

    • yes & style - Next year allow them to walk through with an empty bag and select what they'd like

    • Team to hold separate meeting for Spring wellness bags
       

  • Coat Drive - Dec

    • CHAMP Staff worked with CHP Nurses on a Giving Tree 

    • 150+ students received coats, hats, and gloves

    • giving tree did not go as planned; suggested to revert with old plan

    • tara to give a budget to jess

 

  • Save a Life Day – Dec 14, 9:00am - 1pm
    This was a wonderful event!!​

    • 30 volunteers taught hands-on CPR & Stop the Bleed

    • More in-depth instructor training was a great success!

    • pre-survey & post surveys were completed & given to Sylvia

    • Arsenal to recruit student ambassadors for next year​

    • Pitt Students taught dermatology curriculums. Jess sat in on Ryan's curriculum.​

    • Students were able to meet Spanish-speaking Pirates players & enjoyed the game​
