End-of-Year Recap!!

2024 - 2025 School Year

 

Wins!

  • The Health Fair was great!

    • We had the opportunity to engage with students, families, and similar community orgs.​​

    • Our hands-on CPR station let students show their families what they've learned!

    • Families enjoyed the raffle!

    • Parents "shopped" for health and wellness items donated by WalMart. 

      • We received excellent feedback from the parents! "These are things we actually need."​

  • International night was a win!

    • CHAMP had a prize/informational table​

    • We saw many of our 8th graders and had the opportunity to chat with parents

May

  • We were awarded the $2000 Good Skin Knowledge grant from the American Academy of Dermatology. 

  • PNC Park day was great!

    • Total trip cost: $3100 (covers tickets, meals, swag)​

    • Total fundraised: $2800 (Kiya Tomlin donation + Givesmart)
       

  • Dr. Jen Picarsic, director of CHP Pathology lab, would like to collaborate to do a community site where interested students could do a lab visit during or after school weekly/monthly etc.

  • Sylvia connected with the Riverhounds who would like to collaborate!

  • Future - soccer camp at Arsenal?​

  • Invite them to Arsenal Health Fair

Health Fair / "A Family Affair" / Bring your Parent to Work Day May 16, 10a-1p

  • 35 vendors

  • several volunteers available

  • setup re: skin knowledge grant. request for aliyyat's poster.

  • table(s) set up to discuss things we’ve done. medical students, beth, cpr table, asthma, first aid, vaping, tox, mental health resources

  • Keynote speaker on internet safety (Nurse Brown will send agenda)

  • Move some key vendors to auditorium, hallways, etc.

  • AHA table with manikins for students to show parents what they've learned

  • Add summer programming information

  • Med student table to teach the parents what they’re teaching the kids

  • internet safety - social media - child advocacy center, kristi will reach out

  • derm/hair care + put their poster up

  • gift card raffles at breakfast

  • jess to come to arsenal to check poster thing
    Physical items

  • add time to agenda for ticket drawing at 12pm in the gym

  • PNC Park Day – April 9, 10am - 3pm

    • Unfortunately, students cannot meet the players. Pirates "cannot coordinate" it this year

    • Arsenal attendee count? ~45 students + 5 chaperones

    • Arsenal handles transport

    • Purchased 53 meal vouchers @ $20/each. Team purchased 15 more day-of.

    • Finances:

Black History Trivia  -  Friday February 7

  • 10:30 – 11:30. Champ team arrives around 10am

  • Arsenal students reviewed questions – jess confirmed with nurse brown last week

  • Arsenal has buzzers from last year – trying tablets instead?

  • Keeping the same format; 4-5 student team per grade to answer questions and have all other students in the audience; This worked well last year!  

  • playlist – jess reached out to med students

  • Arsenal invited parents.

  • Prizes:

    • Colleen to pick up chips & drop off in Sylvia’s office

    • Noel picking up cake

    • cake for winning grade (65 kids), chips for 2nd & 3rd place.

  • HBCU will be joining us again this year to MC and are providing swag bags for winning team

  • We will need the same tech setup that Arsenal provided last year. Projector + screen

  • CHAMP can buy jolly ranchers as prizes to be given for correct answers during the game

  • Eat N Park will provide cookies. Varlotta is picking up
    *jess will ask them to donate for May 16 too

  • Elementary school coat drive was a success! Contact: Jeff, at the New Alliance Federal credit union. They’re handling all advertising and collection. Organized with the elementary principal Dr. Rhea. Rrhea1@pghschools.org
